CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – November and December are beloved for the holidays they bring, but the months are also recognized as the beginning of flu season. The days are shorter, the weather gets colder and the average level of physical activity decreases while indoor gatherings increase, which make it easier for the transmission of germs. However, one local medical practitioner does not believe in the vaunted “flu season.”
Dr. Scott Wagner, founder and president of Advanced Pain Management of Virginia has a practice that specializes in what’s called “regenerative medicine,” which utilizes innovative treatments geared toward boosting the body’s natural immunity and ability to heal without medications or surgeries. Dr. Wagner contends that if you take the right approach to your health year round, flu season is something that you will not experience.
“I’ve never heard of flu season being actually documented as a season, not to be sarcastic but I’m just saying, people get sick year round.” Wagner said on the Advanced Pain Management of Virginia Podcast. “People get more sick in times when their immune system is challenged. I would say that I have a lot of patients and a lot of employees over the years that don’t have flu season. You can go to an emergency room and those doctors are usually face to face with the sickest people or the most stressed people and their immune systems have adapted to that so they don’t get sick.”
Wagner continued: “That point to me just says, how good is your immune system, so would I do anything different or more because, oh the flu season is coming up. First I’m saying why does my immune system just work like it should, because I’m designed to live on this planet and this environment. If I was popping around different places in the country and they had different climactic and different viruses all around because of seasonal changes, yeah I would probably do this more.”
The “this” Wagner is referring to is a series of regenerative medicine treatments that are designed to boost a patient’s immunity. Those tools include EBOO therapy, which is a process that filters a patients blood of pathogens and then cycles it back into the body, in essence, its equivalent to a biological oil change according to Wagner. Another tool is I-V therapy, which is a similar concept, where vitamins and nutrients are infused into the blood stream. Wagner personally uses a tool called mythalation supplements, which are designed to help the body’s nutrition based on an initial genetic test. Wagner believes that if you apply these methods as a way of life, you typically will not have to worry about the flu during the holidays.
“The flu season to me, was more people not getting exposure to sunlight and activity and those two things have been proven to improve and help your immune system, vitamin D absorption and activity. So, as it starts getting darker a little early and a little colder people start migrating to less activity and less sunlight. So, all of a sudden we’ve got this huge influx of people getting sick, sniffles, that’s what I relate it to because it makes sense to me.” Wagner said.
He believes you can put together the right formula to protect yourself year round, as opposed to trying to take extra precautions simply because the weather is changing.
“I’m trying to find just like every one of my patients, how can I get my immune system so good that nothing slows me down and I want to meet all the goals I want to meet. I think most people by the time they hit fifty they’re just saying I gotta get through this and I want to change that part of medicine,” Wagner said. “So why don’t we specifically design something for you, its going to lower your costs, its going to extend your life, especially your joint life and your movement life and I’m just going to educate you on that.”
Regenerative medicine is becoming more widely accepted in the medical field and there are a number of insurance plans that will support oxygenating your blood, infusing vitamins, and stem cell treatments. The barrier for most people is the unknown and their willingness to try something unconventional but if you’ve had enough of the flu season, it may be worth a try.
